Local historians are currently researching a variety of topics about  Poulton and  the surrounding area.  The role of the Historical and  Civic Society is to encourage this research, to help to make it available to a wide audience and to provide access to its own sources wherever possible.

Research is continuing on topics such as the history of the buildings in the Conservation Area,  St Chad's Church and  the  River Wyre at Skippool.    The Society recently worked on a major recording project, in  collaboration with the Conservation Officer of Wyre Borough Council,  photographing in detail all buildings in the conservation area.  Currently work has been done on the history of James Baines’ house in the Market Place, recently discovered to have a cruck construction on the second floor.

The Society is currently researching the history of Poulton in the 20th century and has embarked on a programme of oral recordings.

The Society has produced a Town Trail, in conjunction with Wyre  Borough Council and a student from Blackpool and the Fylde College who provided the art work as part of her course work.

Many records for Poulton, Carleton, Hardhorn, Singleton  and the  surrounding area are held at the  Lancashire Record Office Bow Lane, Preston.
