Will Aid

Will Aid is organised by a consortium of nine leading UK charities, including Christian Aid, Help the Aged, The NSPCC and Save the Children UK. Since it began it has raised more than £6 million pounds in donations that have helped millions of people around the world to benefit from basic facilities like cWILLlean water, better health and basic education. It also serves as a reminder for each of us of the importance of making a Will and making sure that it is kept up to date.

A list of the solicitors participating in the Will Aid scheme may be found on the notice board at the back of St Chad’s. If you make or amend your Will with one of these solicitors during the month of November, instead of paying the solicitor for the work, you will be asked to make a donation to Will Aid of the amount that you would otherwise have paid.

The suggested amounts are £75 for one person’s Will, £110 for a pair of mirror Wills for a couple, and £40 for an amendment (codicil) to an existing Will. For a more complex Will, where for example tax planning or trusts are involved, the solicitor may charge an extra fee.

There is absolutely no obligation to make any bequests to charity in Wills drawn up under this scheme; the Will must reflect entirely your own wishes.

At St Chad’s we have great reason to be thankful for the many generous bequests that have been received over the years from former parishioners. We have been very fortunate, and these funds have enabled a number of substantial projects to be carried out.
